Find out what your roof could do before the next rate change.

Ontario electricity prices are set by the Ontario Energy Board and reviewed twice a year. A rooftop solar system changes how much of that price you actually pay. We look at your roof, your bill and the rebates you qualify for — then give you the honest numbers, in writing.

Why look at it now

Your bill has two halves. Solar only touches one of them.

An Ontario electricity bill separates the electricity you use from the delivery charge that moves it to your home, plus regulatory charges and HST. Rooftop solar reduces the volume of grid electricity you buy — it does not remove your connection to the grid or your delivery charge.

That distinction matters, because it decides whether solar makes sense for your household at all. We would rather tell you it doesn't than sell you a system that never pays for itself.

  • We read your last 12 months of consumption, not a national average
  • Roof pitch, orientation and shading are measured before any number is quoted
  • If the payback period is poor, that is what the report will say
What you get

Six things a proper solar assessment should give you

Not a sales pitch with a discount that expires tonight. A document you can take to another installer and compare.

A roof that was actually looked at

Usable area, pitch, orientation, obstructions and shading across the year — measured, not assumed from a satellite thumbnail.

A production estimate in kWh

What the array is expected to generate month by month for your postal code, so you can compare it against the consumption on your own bills.

Every rebate you qualify for

Provincial and federal programs applied to your specific project, with the eligibility rules stated plainly and the application handled for you.

Financing shown honestly

Monthly payment, term and total cost of borrowing side by side with your current bill. Approval depends on the lender's criteria, and we say so.

Warranties in writing

Panel performance, inverter and workmanship coverage listed separately, with the name of the party actually standing behind each one.

A named contact

One person who handles your file from assessment through inspection and grid connection, with a direct line rather than a general queue.

How it works

Four steps, and you can stop after any of them

Nothing is committed until you sign an installation agreement. Steps one and two cost you nothing.

  1. Send us the basics

Your name, how to reach you, and where the property is. It takes about two minutes and puts you under no obligation whatsoever.

  2. We review your consumption and roof

A consultant looks at your recent electricity bills and the roof itself — remotely first, then on site if the numbers look promising. You will be asked for a copy of a recent bill; that is the only document we need.

  3. You receive a written assessment

System size, expected annual production, applicable rebates, financing options, payback estimate and warranty terms. Yours to keep and to compare with any other quote.

  4. Only if it makes sense — installation

Permits, the electrical safety inspection and the net metering application with your local distribution company are handled by us. Most residential installs take one to three days on site.

Rebates & financing

The programs an Ontario homeowner can actually use

These are administered by government bodies and utilities — not by us. We prepare and submit the paperwork on your behalf, at no additional charge.

Ontario

Home Renovation Savings Program

Delivered by Save on Energy. Covers rooftop solar and battery storage among other retrofits, with a rebate of up to 30% of eligible costs to a maximum of $5,000 for solar. Eligibility depends on your property and equipment meeting the program's published requirements.

Federal

Canada Greener Homes Loan

An interest-free loan of up to $40,000 over ten years for qualifying home retrofits, including solar. Administered by Natural Resources Canada. Approval and terms are decided by the program, not by us.

Utility

Net metering

Electricity your system exports to the grid is credited against what you draw later, through your local distribution company. Credits carry forward for up to twelve months. The application is part of the work we do for you.

Financing

Third-party lending

Where a program loan doesn't cover the project, we can introduce you to lenders who finance residential solar. All lending is subject to the lender's own credit assessment and terms.

Program names, funding levels and eligibility rules are set by the responsible government bodies and utilities and can change or close without notice. Nothing on this page is a guarantee that you will qualify for any particular program or amount. Estates Guides Energy is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or acting on behalf of the Government of Canada, the Government of Ontario, the Ontario Energy Board, the Independent Electricity System Operator, Save on Energy or any electricity distributor.

Where we work

Southern and eastern Ontario, with crews of our own

We install with employed crews and licensed electrical contractors rather than subcontracting to whoever is available. That limits how far we can travel — and it is the reason the work looks the same on every roof.

What people told us afterwards

★★★★★

“The assessment said our west-facing section wasn't worth panelling, which cost them part of the job. That was the moment I decided to go ahead with the rest of it.”

“Paperwork for the rebate and the net metering application was handled without me chasing anyone. I signed things twice and that was the whole of my involvement.”

“Install ran a week later than first scheduled because of an inspection date. They told me as soon as they knew, which I appreciated more than the original promise.”
